~Jesus Knew How to Have Fun! Do you?~

Where did we get the notion that a good Christian is a solemn Christian? Who started the rumour that the sign of a disciple is a long face? How did we create the idea that the truly gifted are the heavy-hearted? -Max Lucado

I would like to just add to Max’s quote by saying as believers we are the only Bible many read…and that sucks a lot of the time!!! There is a lot of believers out there, I’m sure occasionally myself included, that make people want to run away from God screaming HELP ME NOW! . . .If I have to be like them to know and love God I think I’ll pass!!! Anyway that is another rant for another time since we are on the topic of fun and godliness! What?? Can those two words be found in the same sentence??? I would have to say absolutely and it is a crime if they aren’t!

When was the last time you really enjoyed yourself? Laughed until you cried and your sides hurt?

If we look in the scripture the gospel of John chapter 2 Jesus had just called his disciples to come and follow him. Then three days later there was a wedding that Jesus and his disciples went to. Why? Just maybe they wanted to enjoy themselves, have a little fun, dance a little dance! AND yes at his Mother’s request turn some water into wine!!! WHAT Jesus was good time Charlie?!! Look out this information may just crack a few solemn faces!

Jesus and his disciples went and enjoyed themselves before they went off to minister: healing the sick, raising the dead, and teaching others about God’s love for them! I know it’s uncomfortable to think of Jesus that way! God forbid that he enjoyed life and was human! I’m not talking debauchery, drunkenness, adultery or being disorderly in anyway. I’m talking about having the freedom to enjoy a joke, liven up a boring party and appreciate a good time!!

You know if this makes you uncomfortable you’re not alone. The religious of Jesus’ day were uncomfortable with him and his followers on a regular basis! Matthew 11:19 shows their contempt…”Look at him! He’s a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!” (God’s Word Translation) Let that sink in!!!

So now that you took a moment to have a mini stroke and question the Bible and it’s accuracy I have a question for you??

When was the last time you were accused of having too much fun? What has happened to us who call ourselves believers? Where is our joy and loud laughter? . . . Are we so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good? Is it that we are so religiously “HOLY” that we couldn’t convince anyone that God is good and He wants to bless us and give us joy unspeakable!!!

Another scripture that not many religious like is found in the Old Testament, Ecclesiastes 5:18-19a At last I have seen what is good and beautiful: It is to eat and drink and to enjoy the good in all our hard work under the sun during the brief lives God gives us. That is our lot in life. It is a gift from God. . .(God’s Word Translation)

So here is my bottom line as believers we often fall short of being someone that someone else would want to be. We often don’t show others something that they wish they had…we forget that we need not be solemn to be a believer! I hope you get that I’m not saying you should compromise to draw people to God but I’m saying you should be comfortable enough in Christ to be able to enjoy yourself and let others know that as a believer it’s OK to have fun! It’s Godly to enjoy life - True Story!
