So I went to the Dr at out patients on Tues December 13 for a sinus infection. My Dr is out with Brain surgery. I got meds and the Dr noted my heart rate was elevated.

I was feeling no better taking the meds and my legs started to swell like stove pipes so I assumed I was having a reaction to the meds. So Saturday December 17 I went back to Out Patients and my heart rate was again very elevated. So Dr Allaby did a number of test..urine, E C G. and blood work. The urine and ECG and what came back of the blood work was fine. He was suspicious of what was going on and I'm grateful he dug and tested!

However one test wasn't back till Monday December 19,when Dr Butler was on call and called for me to come to out patients right away...it was my Thyroid it seems to be very hyperactive making my heart race, giving me swelling and shortness of breath along with several other things. Dr Butler thought it was Graves disease and got me in to the specialist immediately.

So Wednesday December 21 I went to St John to Nuclear Medicine and drank some water and iodine. I went back Thursday morning for a scan and an injection for photos of my thyroid. Then I see the specialist Dr Dornan. I enjoyed him, he was funny! He said there is two types of hypothyroidism one that goes away on it's own and that's not the one you have. You have the one that will need to be treated for the rest of your life. I said Dr Butler thought it was Graves Disease and he said Dr Butler was right. Right now he has me on 3 Tapazole a day. I get blood work near the end of January and he sees me again to figure out if he needs to adjust the dosage of the meds. If he gets them all figured out then we're good to go. However if they don't work I will have to have surgery.

So that's my news I was afraid at first but then remembered I had gone to bed Sunday night at 9:30 with an elevated heart rate and shortness of breath...I prayed & asked God to let me help me find out what was wrong with me. Monday afternoon I got the call. So I'm thankful for answered prayers! Now I know and I'm getting the help I need.

  1. That's the best way to look at it, Michelle. Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out what's wrong, so it's good to get a diagnosis. Now you can get the meds you need to make you feel better and manage the condition. Wishing you a quick return to good health!
