Just Another Pretty Face

There is a scripture is 1 Peter 3:3-4 it talks about wives but I’m pretty sure you can add women and men in general in here. (because in 2012 there is lots of pretty in both men and women)

The scripture goes like this…People {changed by me from wives} must not let their beauty be something external. Beauty doesn’t come from hairstyles, gold jewellery, or clothes. Rather beauty is something internal that can’t be destroyed. Beauty expresses itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious.

Now right off the bat I would like to say no where in there do I interpret that to say you should not cut your hair and shouldn’t have a hair style. Nor do I believe it says you shouldn’t wear jewellery or nice clothes. Nor do I believe it’s saying you shouldn’t be beautiful on the outside! -Just Saying!

However, I do believe it speaks to us in the fact that if our hairstyle, jewellery and clothes are the only things that make us beautiful then we have a problem! There is a lot of unattractive beautiful people out there! Outside beauty but inside full anger, hate, meanness, bitterness, shallowness etc., etc.!

We live in a society that what we look like is far more important than how we act and look inside. I think of the 2001 movie Shallow Hal. The main character Hal is fixated on women’s physical beauty and never really sees their inner beauty or the lack there of. Long story short, Hal gets stuck in an elevator with a hypnotist who hypnotizes him into only seeing physical manifestations of a person's inner beauty. So through out the movie you see less than physically perfect people looking exceedingly beautiful in his eyes. Why because his blinders were gone. Likewise, you see some physically perfect people looking exceedingly grotesque throughout the movie. Eventually the hypnotics is broke and Hal goes through not liking the “unattractive” again but then realizes that he doesn’t need hypnosis to see people’s true inner beauty.

I say hey if you are beautiful that is a wonderful blessing. If you are beautiful on the inside that is even a greater blessing. There is an old adage that says, “beauty is only skin deep,” that doesn’t have to be true. We can choose to be beautiful on the inside too. We can choose to have an inner goodness that no matter how we appear on the outside people will love to be around us because our inner beauty pours out all over the place!!! So take the risk, take the challenge...start making yourself beautiful from the inside out! This one is for guys and girls....really how drop dead gorgeous are you on the inside?

  1. 79% of girls think they're ugly. 88% of girls think they're fat. 100% of society should stop judging others for their appearances.
