Seven deadly sins - REALLY?!

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about the seven deadly sins, from movies past, movies to come and well Repo guys the TV show where you get your “whatever” paid for if you answer 3 out 5 questions right and if not whatever it is that you’re not paying for gets taken back! Anyway….. Back to the seven deadly! The seven deadly sins are a list used back in the day to educate and instruct believers concerning our tendency to sin. The misconception about the list of seven “deadly” sins is that they are unforgivable. AS IF!!!! The Bible is extremely clear that the only sin God will not forgive is that of continued unbelief, because it rejects the way to forgiveness. Basically if you don‘t believe (thus unbelief) Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross then it’s kind of hard to have forgiveness…you know what I’m saying?? The bible tells us in Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 1) haughty eyes, 2) a lying tongue, 3) hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that devises wicked schemes, 5) feet that are quick to rush into evil, 6) a false witness who pours out lies, and 7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.” I bet this list is nothing like the list of seven “deadly” sins you have heard of. A 6th century Pope Gregory the Great classified these as the 7 deadly sins: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. However the bible never gives such a description. "The seven deadly sins" aren’t mentioned. I’m not saying that these seven deadly are not a good guide. Basically most of our daily sins could probably fall under one of those seven categories. Try to remember and grasp this all sin is the same, all equal. If you go and kill someone tomorrow and I gossip about it we are both sinning and both sins will result in death. However, if you ask for forgiveness and I ask for forgiveness guess what we’ll both get it. I don’t know if any of you know the story of Jonah and the whale…well he kind of didn’t want the people of Nineveh to repent and ask for forgiveness because he didn’t think they deserved forgiveness. He’s like; “ Aww, God why do you want me to go and tell them their sin is making you sad. They will probably pray and ask you to forgive them and I know you , you will and well I don’t think they deserve it.” Long story short he went, they repented and God forgave them and Jonah was ticked off! However all sin that is unrepented and unforgiving results in death Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Through Jesus Christ, all of our sins, including the “seven deadly sins,” can be forgiven that’s a good thing!!! It doesn’t matter if it’s seems too big to be forgiven or to little to worry about, sin is sin and is easily forgotten when you ask forgiveness. The bibles says that when he forgives us of our sins that he throws them into the sea of forgetfulness….never to be dragged up again. If only humans were more like that!! If only we had a sea of forgetfulness so when someone does something against us and we want to pay them back and not forgive them for the hurt they caused us or if someone sins and we feel justified in judging them we instead decide to toss it all into the sea of forgetfulness and never drag it up again. All I know is I’m a sinner save by grace and when I ask God to forgive my sins big, little and in-between he forgives and forgets…wouldn’t it be nice if we as believers could do that too. So here’s my advice stop worrying about the seven deadly and focus on what it takes to make them all drown in the sea of forgetfulness. It’s pretty easy just ask….
