Camels, needles & Cash

Camels, needles & Cash

Let's have a quick chat about  Matthew 19:24 a very familiar portion of scripture. Jesus speaking…

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Now at first glance, you would assume that if you have money, sorry for your luck, you ain’t getting in!!! Heaven is not for you. As did the disciples when they actually heard Jesus say this. They were like: “well who can be saved then!!!”

The confusion lies in the fact that what most people don’t know is Jesus was not talking about a literal needle you fix a hole if your shirt with.

Back in the day when you had fortified cities, there would be a city gate that was generally locked nothing could go in and out without the gate keeper’s permission. However, in that gate was a small door know as “the eye of the needle” and to force a camel through that would be exceedingly hard if not impossible.

So take heart if you’re rich you can still make it in! The scripture surrounding this verse was basically this: a rich young ruler asked Jesus what he could do to be saved. His hope, that he could give Jesus a few gold coins and call it good. That he’d have a guaranteed in and be on his way. He was forgetting that heaven isn't the “goal” but a relationship with Jesus is what he should have been looking for.

Not a long blog just a little insight into the scripture for you this morning.

Remember buying your way into anyone’s life never works you just have to take the time for a relationship! Sure money and things are nice but there is more to life! So if it’s a friend, family, a significant other or God Himself do the old-fashioned thing have a one on one relationship.  The best thing you can give a person or God is you.
