Say NO to victim humor.

On the official site of the WWE there was this post…
WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar A.W. as of today, August 10, 2012. WWE wishes A.W. the best in all his future endeavours.
Information found on Wikipedia is as follows:

Brian Jossie (A.W.)

Kobe Bryant Joke Controversy
During the live broadcast of WWE's Monday Night Raw episode 1001 held on July 30, 2012, Jossie made a joke referencing NBA player Kobe Bryant's sexual assault back in 2003. As client Titus O'Neil tangled with Kofi Kingston in a singles match, Jossie, who was wearing a headset microphone yelled from ringside, "Titus O'Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel (room) in Colorado. He's unstoppable!!" When Raw returned from commercial break following the match, the WWE apologized on-air through announcer Michael Cole and Jossie later issued an apology that evening via Twitter and noted that "there was no malicious intent behind the joke." After Raw, WWE issued an official apology via TMZ.com reading, "A. W. made an inappropriate comment and WWE immediately apologized. WWE has taken appropriate action in the matter." The representative, however, did not specify what "action" was taken against Jossie. The incident would later be a subject for discussion on the August 1st, 2012 broadcast of ESPN's Around The Horn with ESPN analyst and Miami Herald columnist Israel Gutierrez using his "facetime" (for winning the day's show) to criticize the WWE for the incident, despite Jossie's joke being an off-the-cuff moment and not scripted by WWE. Jossie was released by WWE on August 10. After his release from WWE, he would go on to rant on his WWE verified Twitter account, @AWPromotions, about his former employer. Eventually, WWE suspended this account.

I realize lots of "inappropriate" things are said & done at WWE. Do I personally think it is appropriate to make fun of Jim Ross who suffers from Bell's palsy, which sometimes results in temporary paralysis of his facial muscles absolutely not but it still happened! Do I think it’s appropriate for Michael Cole to smack talk about Jerry "The King" Lawler’s family life and family issues, no not really! That said those two examples are drama that has been OKed by The WWE writers and entertainers themselves so on some level its acceptable inappropriateness. But a line was crossed with sexual assault humour -just not classy AW!

If you look at it in a comedy sense . . . Victim humour always goes over like a lead balloon! We've seen that in the last month with Dane Cook and his humour regarding the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado! Dane Cook quickly realized that what he said wasn’t funny and disrespected the 12 people killed, 58 injured and their families and apologized!

Bottom line you can say that Kobe Bryant's was acquitted on the sexual assault charges and therefore it’s ok to make the off coloured joke. To anyone that has been is such a situation the acquittal would be irrelevant and the humour not funny…what if it was your sister, your daughter, your friend or you?

Honestly we as humans need to make a stand that says no to victim humour.
Just something to think about. . .
